Realistic Objectives

We aim to bring forward several pesticide-related issues at various government levels:

  • That cosmeic use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers for lawn care, tree and garden maintenance purposes be banned throughout Canada, namely from parks, playgrounds, schools, public and residential areas
  • That pesticide use be banned immediately in and around daycares, schools and community centers
  • That the use of pesticides against minor infestations in commercial, multi-residential and public locations be severely restricted and that appropriate postings become mandtory

Year 2000 - 2001

  • Quarterly infoCAP newsletters
  • Develop promotional tools to ensure the dissemination of information on alternatives
  • Hold an event that will contribute to raise awareness on a large scale
  • Share information on the dangers of pesticide use with the general public and the media
  • Offer proper training to city workers and lawn care companies
  • Hold conferences and/or events within municipalities and citizen groups
  • Develop a youth-oriented program
  • Support any viable action towards reducing and/or banning pesticides

Medium Term

  • That pesticides no longer be sold over the counter; that they rather be purchased at designated locations and retail outlets
  • That a research fund be established for the further development of safe alternatives to pesticides
  • That the cosmetic use of pesticides be banned

 Long Term

  • That the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers be carefully reconsidered in all its current applications
